Debra at work:

Hi, welcome to CaliSoul Kitchen.

My name is Debra Duncan, CEO and co-founder of CaliSoul Kitchen. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. At the age of 5, my mother Mary, aunt Clarisse and grandfather would sit me and my sister on the counter and that’s how I began to learn how to cook. My family has a long line of cooks and I’m the Eighth generation. As I grew up, my mother would ask me and my sister to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cooking for me became a lot of fun and so I decided to follow in the footsteps of aunt Clarisse. She taught me everything she knew before she left this world. The rest of the family continued to mentor me in pursuing my dream to be a Chef. Eventually I was preparing food at large family gatherings. In the process, I learnt how to bake, Sauté, make cream, sauces, seasoning, to name a few.

I began my Journey, to become a great Chef. I attended cutlery school to expand the knowledge in addition to the traditional way I was taught. My efforts continued and I landed at gig as a Chef Supervisor at the Belmore. That’s where I learned how to prepare a lot of Gourmet of dishes. After years of training at the Belmore, I decided to move to San Diego, CA.

With my passion for singing, I joined a P-Funk Act. It was during a show, that I met Larry Byrd who was also in the Band. I loved to cook for our band. Larry showed interest in my cooking skills and it was through his company Disability Dream Weavers, that I got my first break.

One fine day Larry and his friend from the Virgin Islands were talking about making Jerk Sauces. Larry wanted to make Jerk sauces that would sell and we tried making few. We got gigs and finally got into the catering business.

Upon receiving great feedback, CaliSoul Kitchen was born to launch the Jerk products and they’re ready for market.

Waiting to hear from you soon!
